SALFO & Associates has been awarded by J K Bauen Building Contracting LLC the Provision of Detailed Design for the Architectural, MEP, Structural and Infrastructure for the project “the Heart of Europe in Dubai”.
The Portofino Family Hotel is the first hotel project that will be developed on the “World Islands” in Dubai, the famous cluster of man-made islands that form the map of the world, when seen from above. “Portofino” is part of “The Heart of Europe Project”, a large touristic development that will boast 14 hotels and resorts on the Europe Cluster. It is a 5-star luxury hotel with 451 rooms and a total area of approximately 55,000m2.
The design will try to capture the essence of an Italian Port-City and realize it in the form of a single building. It is a hotel for families only; it will provide large beaches facing both Dubai and the Gulf in front of landscaped areas surrounding the various swimming pools. It will host synchronized-swimming shows, it will serve Italian food with music and it will exhibit the first artificial coral reef aquarium in a hotel. Reached only by the sea and not connected with the mainland of Dubai in any way, both the construction, design and operations have to solve issues such as power generation, the provision of drinking water and food, sewage treatment, waste management and Fire and Life Safety services.
